The Florida Everglades is a vast wetland and a national treasure. There are not too many landscapes in this country as unique and impressive as the Everglades and it’s important to become aware of the preservation efforts taking place to keep this area protected. Because of the ecological significance, the Everglades holds for so many Florida residents, this area must be constantly taken care of and conserved. If we don’t strive to protect the Everglades, so many people and animals will be negatively impacted as a result of climate change and habitat change. Animals will lose their home or become extinct if we neglect protection efforts. Our Everglades gator park located in Fort Lauderdale prides itself on contributing to Everglades protection efforts as well as educating our guests on the matter. We explain what can be done to preserve the sacred land so that the wildlife and their habitat will continue thriving for years to come.
Protect the Water Storage
Everglades protection efforts also extend to water supply and estuaries, which benefit greatly by restoring the systems that are in place for water storage in the Everglades. Improving the water quality of the Everglades will contribute to the protection of the environment, which allows for more recreation and tourism. The Clean Water Act was created to limit how much phosphorus can be released into the Everglades. So many Florida residents rely on the Everglades for their water supply and we must ensure that clean water is a priority.
The History of the Everglades
So many plants and animals have called the Everglades home for centuries. The Florida Everglades was once comprised of 11 million acres, but throughout the years, the Everglades has decreased in size due to the negative impacts of land conversion. Because of drainage projects conducted in the early 1900s, many animals were forced to relocate to find food and survive. Those consequences can be felt to this day, which is why it’s so important to keep up with Everglades protection efforts.
Florida Everglades Conservation Efforts
Today, there are numerous organizations and advocates supporting the preservation and conservation efforts for the Everglades. It’s important to become aware of these and realize how important this land is to us. Without a thriving habitat, we would not be able to enjoy the recreational activities and airboat tours at our Everglades gator park! Protect our land so we can continue to enjoy it for years to come. This entry was posted in Everglades Holiday Park Blog on .
