The American alligator is a freshwater animal that prefers slow-moving rivers such as the historic Everglades. Adult male alligators are generally between 11 and 15 feet in length and can weigh up to 900 pounds! The Florida Panther

The Florida Panther is an endangered species that is a part of the cougar family. As panthers mature, they lose their spots that they were born with and male panthers can weigh up to 160 pounds at maturity.

The wading birds of the Everglades include egrets, wood storks, and spoonbills. Many of these birds of the Everglades have long legs so they can stride through the water.

The Florida Everglades is an ecosystem that is home to numerous fish including the crappie fish, the largemouth bass, and the alligator gar. These unique fish species can be spotted for those who fish in the Everglades and you will be amazed at the wide variety. A black crappie fish has irregular spots while the white crappie fish has clearly marked vertical stripes. These fish are very popular game fish and they are also known as strawberry bass or speckled bass. The alligator gar is an ambush predator that eats small mammals that are on the water’s surface.
