Location of the Everglades
A UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Florida Everglades is located at the southern tip of the state, in a largely depopulated area occupied primarily by three national parks. Since Florida became a state, the future of this area has been contested. Though equally important as a tourist attraction and water supply, the Everglades remains threatened by development, driven largely by the population boom in Miami and the surrounding areas.
At Everglades Holiday Park, we believe one of the best ways to ensure the future of the Everglades is to allow people to access it in a safe, sustainable and convenient manner. When you visit us, you’ll find a fully equipped, modern park filled with activities that are both educational and fun for the whole family.
Facts About the Everglades
The Everglades is a natural environment that is truly unique to South Florida. Here are some facts about it you might not know:
- The Everglades is located on more than eight million acres in Florida, originating near Orlando and following the Kissimmee River down to Florida Bay at the southern end of the state.
- The Everglades is the single-largest subtropical wetland ecosystem in the continent and is home to 67 threatened or endangered species.
- Often thought of as a large swamp, the Everglades is actually a complex mix of landscapes including rivers, marshes, forests and marine environments.
- More than seven million people — or one-third of the state — depend on the Everglades for their water supply.
