Wildlife of the Florida Everglades
Take your student groups on an educational and entertaining field trip visit to the Everglades. The Florida Everglades is a vast, fascinating, and unspoiled resource.
The flora and fauna of this wetland include over 2,000 different varieties of plants, over 20 different types of birds, and hundreds of other unique and interesting animals to learn from. The Everglades itself, technically a slow-moving river, is a fantastic tool for teaching about ecosystems, and it’s all conveniently located in our own South Florida backyard.
Safety and Guide Protocols
Like nearly all natural habitats, the Everglades ecosystem is under threat. Human development and drainage issues have shrunk the South Florida wetlands down to a fraction of their original size. A large portion of the ecosystem is a protected national park, and the Everglades institute park rangers who patrol and protect the vast acreage. National Parks can only do some of the work, though. More must be done to preserve this resource for future generations and not let it just become a part of our history.
At Everglades Holiday Park, we have found that the best way to encourage and influence the future is by educating kids about the importance of the ‘Glades in all our lives through our programs. While shows like Animal Planet’s Gator Boys are an important form of outreach, there’s no substitute for visitors coming to the park itself.
